Jell-O Pictures

June 2004

Balloons were readied at the entrance of the "Jell-O Brick Road." The day was June 8, 2004. The day Bill Cosby, comedian and actor, came to visit LeRoy, NY and the Jell-O Gallery. This was to celebrate his thirty year association with the Jell-O name. A local paper stated, "Cosby and LeRoy jell at last." Yes, Bill's first appearence here, but one that will have many lasting memories.

Mr. Cosby's arrival to the Jell-O Gallery was early, 8:00 a.m. He soon began mingling with the crowd of LeRoyans and of course many members of the media. LeRoy has their own version of Bill Cosby, a look alike named Jim Arrington. Jim has filled in several times over the years when Bill Cosby was otherwise engaged. The two of them are getting aquainted for the first time.

Mr. Cosby was offically made welcome by the Jell-O Museum's director Lynne Belluscio, seen here just to the left of Bill. Mr. Cosby and Lynne have been acquainted since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City where they participated in Jell-O promotionals.

Also, Kraft Foods Inc. business director Laura Szeliga, not shown, had many warm welcoming remarks in her introduction of Mr. Bill Cosby and his lasting love of Jell-O.

.

Mr. Cosby's opening remarks were to the point, "I now declare myself Mayor of LeRoy." His next remark, "Isn't America wonderful, I ate and loved Jell-O even before I was paid." Mr. Cosby gave LeRoy a fun morning as he and Kraft Foods Inc. opened the new exhibit in the Gallery.

A part of the morning festivities included the winner of the Jiggle and Giggle contest. She is Nailah Mathews, a seven-year old from Michigan. Nailah performed her winning routine for those gathered. Thanks Nailah, for the dance and joke routine and thanks to your family for coming to LeRoy.

Next it was LeRoy's eighteen elementary fourth grade students turn to entertain Bill Cosby and the audience. They sang a recently composed Jell-O jingle sung to the tune of "Bingo". The song was written by Wolcott Street Elementary School teacher Debbie Lathan and retired school teacher, Prudi Keifer. Great job to you all, you really gave it show biz enthusiasm.

Mr. Cosby was then asked several questions by the media and the audience. Yes, he was enjoying his stay in LeRoy, "I am considering staying the summer." No, he was not returning to television any time soon and yes, he would like his picture taken with groups of the young people who came to serenade him.

.

.

Bill Cosby asked the eighteen children to line up in bunches of "five" so he could meet and greet everyone.

Mr. Cosby returned to his duties and officially opened the Jell-O Gallery doors for all to see the new exhibits.

Shortly after he was observed to be in conference with Museum director Lynne as to his departure. There were rumors of an egg and cheese sandwich requested from a local restaurant in town.

We wish Bill Cosby, who admitted to being 66 years young already, well in his next thirty years of public view.

Most of these pictures were provided by the real mayor of LeRoy, professional photographer Jim DeLooze, shown with his lovely wife Leslie.

Thanks also to Marguerite Green for photos, it was a fun day for ALL.

The Jell-O Gallery has a large new exhibit that reflects Bill Cosby's influence over thirty years. Also, listen to entertainers Kate Smith, Jack Benny, Lucile Ball as they promoted the Jell-O product over the radio air waves.
